However, a no claims bonus can be easily lost if you were recently involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault.
Crash for cash scammers can target motorists by purposely crashing into their cars and then claiming on an insurance policy.
This will leave your no claims bonus in tatters and could see your premiums dramatically rise as your perceived risk increases.
These scammers cost UK motorists almost £340million each year, according to data from the Insurance Fraud Bureau.
In order to protect themselves, motorists must install dash cameras to the front of their vehicles to prove an accident was not their fault.
These cameras record every moment when you are behind the wheel and act as solid evidence an incident may have been caused intentionally.
Recent data from Halfords revealed a third of motorists believe dashcam footage made them feel safer when behind the wheel.
A total of 29 percent of respondents said the main reason for purchasing a dashcam was to keep insurance costs down.

Insurers sometimes offer discounts to motorists who use a dashcam as it is believed road users are safer when they are being filmed.
AA data has revealed dash cam ownership has massively increased from 1 percent to 15 over the last five years.
The Insurance group also confirmed it can be difficult to resolve claims without hard evidence of wrongdoing, making dash cams a must-have item for concerned motorists.
A survey of AA members revealed one-fifth of drivers owned a dashcam as a further 10,000 expressed an interest in getting one.

Sixty percent of current dashcam owners revealed establishing liability in an accident was one of the main reasons for purchasing the tool.
The devices can be purchased for as little as £40 in some places and offer mega savings when compared to the financial hit motorists could face if they are in an accident and cannot prove fault lies elsewhere.
Dash cameras are now becoming more widespread and police officers regularly use the technology on their vehicles to capture incidents.
Police departments across the country are now accepting public dashcam footage as evidence in to prosecute bad or illegal driving.
The RAC urges motorists to stay alert and be aware of other motorists when behind the wheel.
Motorists are urged to maintain a safe driving distance and make sure there is always sufficient room to brake and avoid a potential shunt.
Speaking to the Independent, Daniel Tomson, Halfords’s car technology expert says: “We’ve seen a massive increase in the sale of dash cams.
“A big leap in technology has now put them within reach of most budgets and its one key motoring trend that shows no signs of slowing down.
“Not only do they help guard against dangerous drivers and ‘crash for cash’ scams, they can even help protect your no claims bonus. Having one will soon become as standard as wearing a seat belt.”
