eSprinter joins eVito as the second all-electric van from Mercedes-Benz.
On December 12th, 2019, Mercedes-Benz officially started production of the all-electric eSprinter van at the Dusseldorf plant in Germany.
The eSprinter is assembled alongside the conventional version and will be available in two battery versions: 35 kWh (three battery modules) and 55 kWh (five battery modules). We were previously expecting 41 kWh and 55 kWh versions.
As the range is expected at just 115 km (71 miles) with 35 kWh or 168 km (104 miles) with 55 kWh, we assume that the eSprinter is now just the first approach and will be followed by bigger battery options at a later point in the future.
Having a smaller battery has one advantage (aside from lower price), the payload is up to 1,040 kg, compared to 891 kg with 55 kWh pack.
“More than 4.6 million vehicles have been produced in Dusseldorf to date. Since 2018, production of the new Sprinter has also taken place there, with over 200,000 units having already left the assembly line, ready to enter into their daily service all over the world. The production of the fully electric eSprinter marks the beginning of a new era in Dusseldorf. Building the eSprinter in Dusseldorf is a next step for the future of the plant and for the manufacturer itself.”
