Mustang Girl Monday: Beth Fitzgibbons and her stable of Mustangs

Beth Fitzgibbons grew up watching her father race at the local speedway, going with her mother and watching him race. She couldn’t help it; cars were in her DNA and while her dad taught her respect all makes and models of cars, Mustangs were always her favorite.

She said, “My very first car was a 1966 Tahoe Turquoise 289 coupe that was a graduation gift from my Chevy loving father. It was quite a surprise to have him buy me a Ford. I wish to this day I still had that car. For years after selling my ’66, I knew I wanted another and would get one some day, so I began saving to buy a 2016 Mustang as it would be 50 years [older] than my first Mustang.”

But her next Mustang would come sooner than 2016, after she went to a local car show in September 2012 and realized that there was no way she could wait another four years, so that began the search for another Mustang, a special edition of some kind, saying, “one that wasn’t one of a million.” She soon found a 2007 California Special in Michigan, and when she first laid her eyes on the car, she knew she would be taking it home.

Beth said, “Since getting her in 2012, I have driven her to the 50th Mustang Birthday in Charlotte, driven the Tail of the Dragon, drag raced her at Summit Motorsport Park in Norwalk, OH winning the 14-second class for True Street All Female Shootout in 2015, driven on Michigan International Speedway, and take her to shows all summer long. She’s had a few mods since owning her, like 4.10 Ford Racing gears, Roush Extreme exhaust with an off-road Pypes H-pipe, Ford Racing headers, a larger throttle body, lowered, light bar, personalized powder-coated calipers, wheels, and valve covers.”

Beth went on to say, “Since Mustangs are like chips and you can’t have just one, I added a 1988 GT to the corral in 2014 to make this one my drag car. I raced ‘Foxy’ for the season and then decided it was time for an upgrade. She has been under the knife since then and should be finished by Spring 2019.”

Beth seems to have the disease we share, since she couldn’t leave well enough alone and got another Mustang, saying, “Again, can’t have just one so I added a 1990 LX with under 18,000 miles a year ago. ‘Eeyore’ (because the car is a 4-cylinder) is my show car and occasional driver. I took Eeyore to various local shows this past summer. The first big show will actually be the Piston Powered Autorama in Cleveland in March, 2019.”

Beth told us that her favorite thing about being a Mustang owner is “all the people I have met and the lifelong friends I have made. My co-workers refer to me as ‘Shake-n-Bake’ because I race.”
