This is your chance to live out your dreams of winning the famous 24-hour endurance race, in a super-exclusive Ferrari
Ferrari added another chapter to its rich history at Le Mans in 2023 taking the overall win for the first time in over half a century with the 499P. And that car has just spawned a ‘Modificata’ version that you can actually buy.
Developed by Ferrari’s new Sport Prototipi Clienti programme, it’s essentially a copy of a Le Mans winner – and as you’d expect with such prestige, the 499P Modificata isn’t cheap. The race car costs £4.6million, but you can’t race it because Ferrari says the prototype is designed for non-competitive track use only. A “strictly limited-series track car” owners of the 499P Modificata will be able to experience the car’s performance at private track days, or at special events organised by Ferrari.
The Modificata was revealed at Mugello Circuit during Ferrari’s 2023 celebration of its customer racing programme called Finali Mondiali. The “very select clientele” as Ferrari says, will be able to experience the 499P in its most extreme form; the Modificata gains upgrades to its chassis, interior and powertrain by being free of the FIA’s regulations.
The 499P race car was limited to an overall output of 671bhp but the Modificata boosts this to 846bhp, using the same three-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 derived from the Ferrari 296 GTB supercar. Power is sent through a seven-speed sequential transmission.
While FIA regulations mean the 499P can’t activate its front-axle electric motor at speeds under 118mph, the Modificata’s front wheels are powered from the get-go, meaning it’s all-wheel drive at all times.
The Modificata has been developed for “gentleman drivers” but given not many possess the abilities of Ferrari’s Le Mans-winning triumvirate of James Calado, Antonio Giovinazzi and Alessandro Pier Guidi, the shock absorbers, springs and anti-roll bars have been fettled to offer more predictable behaviour.
The exterior of the Modificata is identical to its Le Mans counterpart, even down to the livery. The interior is also a copy of the racer with a single-seat layout and a race steering wheel.
Included in the package of buying the Modificata, Ferrari will also transport the car to each of the circuits within the Sport Prototipi Clienti programme, along with giving the owner track-side assistance and maintenance.
