Ford has announced its new UK scrappage scheme which could save customers thousands off the cost of a new vehicle. The car scrappage scheme has been brought back after the brakes were put on it last year. The aim of the new scheme is to take older and less fuel-efficient vehicles off the road in Britain and replace them with more fuel-efficient cars. “Our last Ford scrappage scheme saw 25,500 customers trade-in their older vehicles for Ford models equipped with our latest emissions and fuel-efficiency technologies, contributing to reducing CO2 and other emissions on U.K roads,” said Andy Barratt, managing director, Ford of Britain.
“We expect our new Ford scrappage scheme that we’re launching on July 1 to also have a positive impact on the environment.”
Customers can save £2,000 on selected Ford passenger and commercial vehicles. To qualify the scheme the owner must take their existing car to a dealership and trade it in.
The Ford dealership will then arrange for the vehicle to be scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility and a Certificate of Destruction issued.
To be eligible for the scrappage discount, customers must order their new Ford vehicle between July 1, 2019, and September 30, 2019.
Drivers don’t immediately have to cash in on the discount immediately and can have their vehicle registered between July 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
The vehicle being traded in does not need to be a Ford but it must have been registered on or before December 31, 2012, and must have been owned by the customer for 90 days or more before scrapping.
Scrappage savings can be used against the purchase commercial vehicles (excluding Transit Connect and Ranger Raptor), and Ford passenger vehicles (excluding KA+, Fiesta Trend, all Zetec derivatives, Mustang, and all ST derivatives (Fiesta ST-1, ST2 and ST-3; ST Performance Edition; and Focus ST).
“To help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of our vehicles, we are committed to making more efficient, lower-impact vehicles and technologies accessible at scale.
“Our new scrappage scheme not only helps to remove some of the oldest vehicles from the parc, but also introduces customers to the latest fuel-efficient technologies,” said Barratt.
