Puspakom says it's prepared for e-hailing vehicle inspection task, corrects Grab's 20-month estimate

Following Grab Malaysia’s statement on the preparedness of agencies to regulate the e-hailing industry, Puspakom has now provided its assurance that it’s prepared to inspect e-hailing vehicles nationwide.

The vehicle inspection company said its existing inspection capacity, infrastructure and network of inspection facilities would allow it to meet the challenge. Currently, it has 56 permanent inspection centres, 30 vehicle inspection visiting sites and a fleet of mobile inspection units.

Puspakom also corrected Grab’s estimation that it would take up to 20 months to inspect every vehicle on its platform, saying that not all e-hailing vehicles were required to undergo the routine inspection.

“Some reports quoted say there are hundreds of thousands e-hailing drivers in the market, but not all e-hailing vehicles must undergo routine inspection – only those vehicles more than three years old are required to perform a routine inspection once every 12 months,” said Puspakom chief executive officer Shukor Ismail.

“In other words, the total number of vehicles that need to perform the required inspection could be less than the total number of the vehicles in the market,” he said in a statement,” he added, as reported by The Star.

Shukor said Puspakom would also organise briefing sessions with e-hailing operators and drivers, so to better assist them in understanding the inspection issue better.
