If you get stuck in an hours-long traffic jam – invariably caused by a car crash – this coming festive season, don’t blame it on the toll discounts being doled out by highway concessionaires, says Baru Bian. Instead, the transport minister asks you to point your finger at the reckless attitudes exhibited by drivers themselves, according to a Bernama report.
These attitudes, Baru said, continue to add to accident statistics every year. “Discounts in toll charges are the concession companies’ way to show appreciation to their customers and have nothing to do with the traffic congestion experienced during the festive seasons. Most importantly, all concessionaires also issue their respective travel proposal schedules for motorists to plan their journey better,” he added.
In conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations on February 5, a total of 25 concessionaires are offering rebates of between 10% and 30% for Class 1 motorists, from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm. Those providing a 10% discount include the North-South Expressway (PLUS), East Coast Expressway (LPT) Phase 1 and 2, SMART Tunnel, Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) and the Penang Bridge.
Meanwhile, the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Kemuning Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Kajang SILK Highway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, KL-Putrajaya Highway (MEX) and the New North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB) are giving out 15% discounts, while the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) have rebates of 20% during that period.
Lastly, a 30% discount in toll charges will be offered on the Cheras Kajang (Grand Saga) Expressway, Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) and Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).
