Renault is continuing its slow reveal of the fifth-generation Clio with part two of its unknown-number-of-parts series, with focus on the B-segment model’s exterior design. While we were already treated to leaked images recently, this official reveal is accompanied by a handful of important details as well.
For starters, Renault says the Clio V is 14 mm longer than its predecessor at 4,048 mm, and claims that it is more spacious inside despite this. This is likely attributed to the increased width, which now measures 1,798 mm (+66 mm).
The switch to the CMF-B platform allows for a body that is set 30 mm lower than before, although this only results in an 8 mm decrease in overall vehicle height (1,440 mm).
As mentioned previously, Renault took the evolutionary approach to designing the new Clio, integrating elements from its other models. Up front, there’s hints of the Megane IV in the design of the LED headlamps that feature C-shaped LED daytime running lights.
The new grille remains familiar, with the Renault logo in a central position, flanked by thin chrome strips. Around it, gloss black pins form the grille mesh, which is a cue that is also seen on the Kadjar.
Along the sides, we see an upswept windowline, sloping roofline and decorative trim in the lower region with the Clio script. The rear door handles are tucked away close to the C-pillar, which is again, another design element of the previous model. A new addition here are wind deflectors on the wheel arches that help with aerodynamic efficiency.
As for the rear, a redesigned hatch hints at a larger aperture to the boot, and the French carmaker says boot space has increased to 391 litres (+26 litres). Features such as a double floor and flat-folding rear seats add to the practicality offered.
Elsewhere, the sleeker taillights not only provides a wider width to the vehicle’s rear, they also get a C-shaped signature to mirror the front. Further down, the new bumper does away with the horizontal strakes of its predecessor for a cleaner look, while the placement of the number plate is higher up.
The Clio is available in two unique trim packages, with the sportier option being called the RS Line that will gradually phase out the previous GT-Line. Highlights include what Renault calls the F1 blade at the front, a honeycomb grille and 17-inch wheels.
Meanwhile, the interior comes with sports seats, carbon-style inserts, a perforated leather steering wheel with the RS logo, aluminium pedals and a black interior theme with red topstitching and edging.
As an alternative, there’s the Initiale Paris package that focuses on classy touches like chrome detailing on the window surrounds, lower door guards and grille, the latter with the Initiale Paris badge.
There’s also a shark fin antenna and dedicated 17-inch wheels that comes with the package. Inside, customers can choose from two colour schemes – Black and Sand Grey – with specially designed leather seats and a foamed leather steering wheel. Aside from these special trim packages, the Clio comes in 11 body colours and with three standard exterior customization packs (red, orange and black).
