The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released vehicle sales data for the month of September 2019, which saw a total of 44,666 units delivered in the month. The most recent result is 6,482 units – or 13% – less when compared to the 51,148 units recorded in August.
According to the association, the decline is largely attributed to the number of public holidays that saw a shorter working month, as well as consumers withholding their purchases in anticipation of the Malaysian Budget 2020 (Bajet 2020) announcement.
Even so, the sales volume for September 2019 is 13,426 units – or 43% – more than the 31,240 units delivered in the same month last year. Looking at year-to-date total industry volume (TIV), the first nine months of 2019 saw 442,991 units delivered, which is 11,864 units – or 2.6% – less than the same corresponding period in 2018.
For the month of October 2019, the association expects sales volume to improve upon September’s recorded figure due to a longer working month.
