Seventh Edition of Roadkill Nights Brings Legal Street Racing Back!

Seven years ago David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan had the idea to go drag racing in the Silverdome parking lot. Actually, it was a little more involved than that—the city of Pontiac, Michigan, sanctioned the whole event, Dodge sponsored the deal, and General Mayhem was the recipient of the first-ever Hellcat swap for the race against the Gas Monkey Garage crew. The 2015 event was so popular that it became a yearly tradition known as MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, and although the Silverdome was demolished, the legal street racing continues on historic Woodward Avenue.

You read that right: with the help of Dodge, M1 Concourse, and the city of Pontiac, Roadkill Nights brings street racing back to Detroit’s famous Woodward Avenue on Saturday August 13, 2022. Roadkill also kicks off the week of car shows around metro Detroit that culminates with the Woodward Dream Cruise, so the trip to M1 Concourse isn’t a one-night deal.

Run What You Brung, Legally, on Woodward Avenue

Roadkill Nights is more than just an excuse to run your street legal race car down Woodward Avenue with permission from the local authorities. Dodge is bringing back the Hellcat Thrill Rides and Hellcat Simulators, where fans can take a ride with professional drifters or try to digitally pilot a Hellcat down a ¼-mile of pixels. Metro Detroit’s finest rods, customs, muscle cars, and trick trucks will be on display at M1 Concourse, and there will be plenty of food and live entertainment to enjoy in between the rounds of legal street racing.

“If you’ve ever dreamed of watching street-legal drag racing down Woodward Avenue, come to our event! It’s going to be an absolutely epic day and night,” said Eric Schwab, MotorTrend’s Group SVP, Head of Revenue and Partnerships. “Going strong for seven years, the event has something for everyone. Whether you’re a drag racer, car enthusiast, or just looking for a fun day to spend with family, Roadkill Nights promises a dynamic experience.”

Dodge might even introduce their new Chief Donut Maker to the Roadkill crowd. Check back here often for registration and participant information for the Senenth Edition of MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge.
