SPYSHOTS: 2019 Land Rover Defender – interior seen

Following an on-screen revelation of sorts of the next Land Rover Defender’s outlines, we now have some spy images of the forthcoming iconic model’s interior, which as we can see here, is being brought up to date from its rather more utilitarian roots.

Along with the digital instrumentation we’ve seen previously, infotainment is now via a widescreen display, side-by-side with the dashboard-mounted gear selector lever alongside HVAC controls with integrated temperature displays. This should be the latest iteration of the Touch Pro interface, which features a 10.25-inch (or optional 12.3-inch) display in the 2020 Discovery Sport.

Rolling stock will be 20-inch wheels and tyres, as judged from these images, and the pictures of the Defender’s undercarriage show the use of air suspension on the longer-wheelbase 110, and coil springs on the Defender 90, according to our sources. For now, it remains to be seen if air suspension will be offered on both models, or just optionally on the 110, or standard on the long-wheelbase model.

The mostly digitised controls also hint at the use of Terrain Response systems in their latest versions for the tackling of tricky surfaces. Given the new Defenders’ apparent state of readiness, the iconic nameplate is likely set for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with four-cylinder Ingenium engines likely to comprise the bulk of Defender volume, while higher-end versions will get the inline-six Ingenium unit in various states of tune, according to Autocar.
