At last, we’re seeing new spyshots of the next-generation Honda Jazz, as the company gears up to a reveal within the next two years. And judging by these images, it appears that the popular B-segment hatchback will dial down on the current GK model‘s aggressive styling.
Despite camouflage still featuring heavily on these development prototypes, it’s clear that the headlamps have become taller and are fitted with large square projectors, returning to the friendly and cutesy look of the first two generations. The front air intake has also been made slimmer, but a version of Honda’s “Solid Wing Face” front grille should still remain.
Meanwhile, the front quarter light windows appear to be bigger, suggesting that the windscreen has been pushed forward; the door mirrors have also been moved to the base of the split A-pillars. The side surfacing has been simplified, too, losing the outgoing model’s prominent shoulder creases.
At the rear, the tail lights are now horizontal two-piece items instead of vertical to emphasise the car’s width, and the (fake) bumper vents on the old GK have thankfully been banished. A second mule also sports what looks to be an off-road appearance package similar to the current X-Road, as evidenced by the larger grille, chunkier front and rear bumpers, roof rails, wheel arch extensions and a taller ride height.
The Jazz should remain powered by petrol and hybrid powertrains, the latter reportedly being a version of the Insight‘s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system that pairs a 1.5 litre engine with twin electric motors. This replaces the once-problematic Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive (i-DCD) currently in the Jazz Hybrid, which utilises a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A fully-electric model should also be in the works.
