We get another look at the forthcoming BMW 3 Series Touring, or station wagon, courtesy of our spy photographers who have captured images of the new model running road trials. As previously sighted, the G21 can be seen here fully uncovered, save for some camouflage foil from the C-pillars rearwards.
The front half of the 3 Series Touring cabin is likely to be basically the same as that of the recently-launched G20 3 Series sedan, including dashboard architecture, switchgear and the like. The same goes for the front half of its exterior, up to its A-pillars at least, atop which and along the roof the Touring will sport a pair of roof rails.
Powertrain options for the Touring is expected to mirror those for the sedan; these include a 184 hp/300 Nm 2.0 liter turbo four petrol mill in the 320i, a 258 hp/400 Nm unit of the same capacity and configuration for the 330i, a 150 hp/320 Nm and 190 hp/400 Nm 2.0 litre diesel for the 318d and 320d respectively, and a 265 hp/580 Nm 3.0 litre straight-six diesel in the 330d.
Most of the 3 Series engine range, then, save for the full-cream M3, which has always missed out on wearing the station wagon bodystyle. Given its competitors’ high-performance entrants in the forms of the RS4 Avant and the C 63 S estate, might there be hope for an M division take on the G21 chassis?
