It’s no secret that Land Rover’s skunkworks division is working on the Range Rover Velar SVR – the 5.0 litre super SUV has been spotted multiple times since April 2017, and the latest set of spy photos taken in the UK reveal just a tad more details from before.
To start, the front apron now features larger air intakes for improved cooling performance, and the blacked-out mesh-type radiator grille stays true to SVR traditions. Other sporty assortments come in the form of huge alloy wheels, beefier brakes and SVR-specific styling tweaks.
Besides that, little about the SUV is known. However, the high-performance Velar has been earmarked to receive the brand’s ubiquitous supercharged 5.0 litre V8, which produces up to 567 hp and 700 Nm in the Jaguar F-Type SVR. Expect the Velar SVR to make close to those figures as well. Also worthy of note is that our spy photographers cited the “unmistakeable noise of a V8” from the test mule.
As for its rivals, the Velar SVR’s closest competitors would be the F-Pace SVR, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, as well as the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, BMW X5 M and Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Expect the Velar SVR to pack some serious hardware for off-roading ability, courtesy of a special all-wheel drive system with Terrain Response, hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
