The second season of the Toyota Vios Challenge came to an end last weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, which was the fourth and final stop of the race series after Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (Kuala Terengganu), MAEPS (Serdang) and the Batu Kawan Stadium (Penang).
In the Promotional class, singer Khai Bahar won his first ever race of the season in Race 2, and he is joined by other first-time podium finishers like singer Wany Hasrita in second, and UMW Toyota Motor deputy chairman Akio Takeyama in third.
However, it was actress Diana Danielle who was crowned overall champion, making her the first female driver to secure the title with 100 points collected over the four rounds. She finishes ahead of singers Aiman Tino (94 points) and Akim Ahmad (92 points), who were second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, the hotly contested Sport Class saw Brendon Lim dominate the 20-lap Race 2 by finishing more than 11 seconds ahead of the pack, leading to first maiden win in the race series.
Lim, who represents Tedco Racing, finished ahead of Eric Yong from ST Wangan Racing Team to increase his final points tally to 86 points, just one ahead of Yong. That was enough for him to take home the championship, with Panglima City Racing Team’s Kenneth Koh ending in third.
Lastly, the Super Sporting Class saw an intense battle between William Ho (Kegani Racing), Alif Hamdan (Laser Motor Racing), as well as Team Nanoplus drivers Eddie Liew and Keifli Othman in Race 2 on Sunday.
With a focus on conversing his tyres, Ho guided his Vios to a race win, while the Nanoplus drivers battled each other before Alif swooping in to snatch third place away from Keifli.
While there was plenty of action at the front, ST Wangan Racing Team’s Boy Wong Yew Choong two cautious and tactical finishes in the two races over the weekend – third in Race 1 and seventh in Race 2 – was more than enough for him to be named overall champion in the Super Sporting Class.
Wong ended Season 2 with a comfortable nine-point lead ahead of William Ho at 95 points, while Brendan Paul Anthony rounded off the podium spots with 73 points.
“It has certainly been a successful Season 2 for us, and I am pleased to say that the Toyota Gazoo Racing branding has generated tremendous amount of awareness. We look forward to continuing with this initiative as long as possible in Malaysia,” said Akio Takeyama.
