Vauxhall recall: Manufacturer issues recall on Zafira C months after fire crisis

Vauxhall confirmed their Zafira C model had been recalled after an issue with their roof rail which needed to be tested. A spokeswoman said: “There is a recall on the Vauxhall Zafira C. The issue relates to the thickness of the roof rail and there would only ever be an issue if an additional roof rack is installed. “A test is carried out on the rail by the retailer, and only if required, replaced.” Express.co.uk was made aware of the recall from a reader who told us he received a letter about the urgent recall and had to take his car in to be looked over.

Vauxhall’s Zafira models have been plagued with issues after a series of recalls over the past few years.

Just months ago, almost a quarter of a million Zafira B models were recalled after an electrical problem was seen to be a fire risk.

Almost 50,000 Zafira models were recalled last year with electronic climate control faults.

A number of the vehicles were also called back in 2015 and 2016, with 200,000 cars sent back to base after developing heating issues.

Zafira B models built between 2005 and 2014 were seen bursting into flames across the UK before a recall was issued to replace faulty parts.

A 2017 report from the Commons Transport Select Committee accused the manufacturer of having a reckless disregard for safety after Vauxhall were accused of being too slow to react to fire concerns.

Vauxhall Astra cars were also recalled in January over a potential brake issue, warning customers of a reduction in braking power on board the cars.

In July Volvo were also forced to issue recalls of half a million cars after the firm said issues with the engine could result in a fire risk.

Concerned motorists can check whether there is a recall on their cars on the government’s official website.

Drivers can input a registration number and model information to see whether their car has a recall relating to it.

The Gov website makes clear it is the manufacturers’ responsibility to replace faults and drivers are not usually charged for the updates.

The Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency defined a recall as an action taken when a defect is identified which meets the definition of a safety defect that could result in serious injury.

Consumer watchdog Which? classify a recall notice as the most severe safety notice for manufacturers.

They claim when the recall is in place, retailers must not sell the food while safety checks and evaluations are performed.

They add a manufacturer must issue a warning about a dangerous product and withdraw from the market as soon as possible.
