Officially, the current-generation Toyota Supra goes 155 mph. Like a lot of German-engineered cars, it’s electronically capped there long before it reaches its mechanical limit. But according to a new video from Cars on Autobahn, the real limiter is a bit higher.
In the video, a reportedly stock A90 Supra hits 263 kilometers per hour according to its internal speedometer. An external GPS speedometer says the car maxxes out at 262 km/h, but both numbers round to about 163 mph. As Motor1 points out, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen that number. A video released last year also showed a Supra hitting Vmax at 163 mph, 8 mph over its official top speed.
It’s also worth noting that 163 does not appear to be the mechanical limit of the Supra, but where the electronic governor kicks in. As you can see in the video, the car is still accelerating when it hits 263 kph and then the speedometer stays pegged there, not at maximum revs but refusing to accelerate more. It could be a coincidence, but the Germans are known for underrating their performance cars.
