The Ford Fiesta ST does not need any more power or torque. Its 197bhp, 214lb ft 1.5-litre inline-three is extremely punchy in the mid-range and feels like a good step up from the already quick previous-gen ST.
But hey, a little more poke couldn’t hurt, right? That’s certainly what renowned Ford fettler Mountune thinks, and its response is the m225 tuning pack.
It contains the usual freer-flowing induction kit and a natty little Mountune badge, but the difference between this and previous packages from the firm is the new ‘Smartflash’ smartphone app.
It’s available for Android and Apple devices, and it connects to your ST via a Bluetooth OBD II reader. Once you’re installed and ready to go, you can choose between three modes: Performance, Stock, and Anti-Theft.
Anti-Theft does what it says on the tin – it’s an immobiliser mode. And Stock, as you’d expect, returns the car to factory settings. Performance is where it gets interesting: for starters, selecting this mode ups the power by 25bhp and the torque by 36lb ft, giving new figures of 222bhp and 250bhp.
In addition, it makes the active exhaust louder in Sport and Track modes, plus it makes the launch control system “more aggressive,” Mountune says. As a result of this along with the boost in power and torque, the m225 pack drops the 0-60mph time from 6.5sec to just under six seconds.
The reinvigorated 1.5 inline-three should feel noticeably punchier on the move, too. In Performance mode, a whole second is lopped off the factory 31-62mph in-gear acceleration figure.
Want your own Fiesta ST to perform thusly? The full kit will set you back £662.50, or if you already have a high-flow induction kit, the app and OBD II reader can be bought for £479.16.
