Lamborghini Restored FIA President Jean Todt's Miura SV

Lamborghini got into the period correct nut-and-bolt Polo Storico restoration business in 2016, offering to bring vintage Lambos back to original factory condition in the actual factory where they were first assembled. The latest vehicle to get the Polo Storico treatment is this gorgeous 1972 Miura SV, belonging to none other than FIA president (and former Scuderia Ferrari and Peugeot Talbot Sport head) Jean Todt.

Of the roughly 741 Miuras that Lamborghini built, only 143 were P400 SVs. What makes this 1972 example particularly interesting is that it has the chassis number of a different Miura, a yellow 1968 S model that was destroyed in a crash soon after delivery.

According to Lamborghini, it was common practice in those days to re-use chassis numbers, both for financial reasons (“to protect the customer from the extremely high import taxes”) and practical ones (“given that the car kept the previous registration and related documents”). What’s for sure is that at least another seven SVs were born this way.

In November 1972, when chassis no. 3673 was delivered (the second time) as an SV to its first owner, a Mr. Mecin of South Africa, it was painted Rosso Corsa with a gold lower band and a black interior. And that’s exactly how it’s finished now, 47 years later.

The job involved the complete dismantling of the car, with Polo Storico verifying every part with the date from the assembly books stored in the Lamborghini archives. The factory says the car “showed clear signs of wear and tear,” but as always, Polo Storico gave priority to repairing and restoring rather than replacing.

Jean Todt’s factory-fresh Miura SV was presented at Rétromobile 2019, where it was signed by Lamborghini boss Stefano Domenicali himself. Nothing like having friends in high places.
