Coming soon(ish) from Fisker: an affordable all-electric crossover/SUV slated to be built somewhere in the United States. This high-volume offering, which has no official name as of yet, will apparently precede a production version of the EMotion concept to market.
Designer and company namesake Henrik Fisker announced the plans on (as is now apparently customary) Twitter; he also shared a rendering of the front of the vehicle, which you can see up top.
According to the designer himself, we can expect a four-wheel-drive SUV with “around 300 miles range” to arrive in the second half of 2021. The price will start at under $40,000.
This is Fisker’s statement, in its entirety:
Fisker All Electric SUV coming in 2nd half of 2021. Less than $40,000. Standard battery +80kWh. 4WD. Around 300 mile range. Direct Sales. Franchised Service.#Fisker #EVs #ElectricVehicles #SUV pic.twitter.com/jDn868J47I
Anyway, there’s something to be said for succinctness. And compared to the less-than-comprehensive releases that usually accompany EV concept teasers, this one’s fairly comprehensive, hitting the major points of interest: range, price and release date.
Fisker continued the conversation about the upcoming vehicle and its design on Twitter, responding to questions like: If it’s an EV, why does it need a grille? “We need some air for air conditioning, brakes etc.,” Fisker says, adding that even Tesla’s smooth-faced offerings have air openings at the bottom of the front fascias.
This comes just days after the reveal of the Tesla Model Y crossover, the ostensible competition for the Fisker and the upcoming wave of full-electric vehicles like it. As much as we want to see more of the elegant Fisker EMotion EV concept with its wild quad scissor doors, a relatively affordable SUV/crossover is likely a better way to get EVs into the greatest possible number of driveways.
