It looks just like the standard model but with an electrified powertrain.
The Hyundai Kona family grows in Europe with the introduction of the new Hybrid model to join the purely combustion-powered variant and the Electric EV. European sales start in August, and there are no pricing details yet.
The Kona Hybrid packs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and electric motor with a total combined output of 139 horsepower (103.6 kilowatts) and 196 pound-feet (265 Newton-meters) of torque. The combustion engine alone produces 104 hp (77 kW) and 108 lb-ft (147 Nm), and the motor makes 43 hp (32 kW) and 125 lb-ft (170 Nm). The hybrid setup uses a 1.56-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion polymer battery, and the only available gearbox is a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Latest On The Kona:
Hyundai estimates the Kona Hybrid reaches 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 11.2 seconds, and it hits a top speed of 99 mph (160 kph). For the European market, the company forecasts the little crossover achieving 3.9 liters per 100 kilometers combined fuel economy, which is roughly equivalent to 60 miles per gallon.
The Kona Hybrid looks practically identical to the combustion-powered version. New 16- and optional 18-inch wheel designs are the only notable aesthetic difference.
The interior is also fairly similar, except for an optional black-white two-tone color pack. It adds white accents around some of the air vents and gear shift bezel, and black trim adorns the door handles, steering wheel spokes, and other air vents. A gray headliner is also part of the package.
The cabin comes standard with a seven-inch infotainment screen, but a 10.25-inch display is an available upgrade. An optional driver safety suite includes forward collision warning and avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Buyers can also get adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane following assist, speed limit monitoring, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keep assist.
