Automaker sends memo to workers after earlier confidential information landed with those outside the company
Tesla is going after employees again over leaks to journalists that led to company information landing in reports, and the company said in a memo that it would go after those, “who improperly leak proprietary business information or violate the non-disclosure obligations to which we all agreed.”
In a company email obtained by CNBC Friday, warned of “outsiders” looking to obtain company secrets and tracking down Tesla employees on social media to get information. But the automaker also said that, “we will continue to see an interest from people who will do anything to see us fail.” And it threatened those who leaked that information with legal action.
“This includes termination of employment, claims for damages, and even criminal charges,” according to the email.
Tesla is far from the first company to warn employees of leaking proprietary information, but it’s still a strong message to its community. It comes amid various legal action from major agencies, new model variants coming at a breakneck pace, as well as a rough first quarter of the year that CEO Elon Musk is undoubtedly eager to correct.
Musk, a large presence on Twitter, likes to talk to the media about his company’s accomplishments. And for the most part, he wants to be the only one doing the talking.
