Want a new Porsche Taycan, but can’t afford to shell out $103,800 for what’s currently the cheapest variant? We have good news: Porsche is reportedly planning cheaper, entry-level versions.
In an interview with U.K. publication Car, Porsche R&D boss Dr. Michael Steiner confirmed more affordable versions of the company’s all-electric sedan are on the way.
“There will be entry-level models coming off the Taycan,” Steiner told Car. “There will be a rear-wheel-drive model with a smaller battery to make it more accessible price-wise, especially for markets that don’t need 4WD—places like China, where weather conditions mean you don’t need it.”
Currently, there are only three Taycan variants you can buy: the 4S, the Turbo, and the Turbo S. All come with dual motors, while the two Turbo models come with 93.4 kWh batteries as standard (it’s available as an option on the 4S).
Steiner didn’t elaborate on pricing for the upcoming entry-level Taycan, but Car predicts it will be similar to pricing used on the 911 range. Making the front motor an option and offering a smaller battery pack means the base could start at under $100,000 in America. That’s just speculation at this point, however.
