How to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Abarth? It’s a storied marque deserving of a big tribute. Fiat is celebrating with a new version of the Abarth 695 that features one of the coolest spoilers we’ve seen in some time.
I’ll admit that when I first saw this car earlier today, I didn’t pay much attention. Fiat’s been cranking out special editions of the 500 Abarth for years now. But then I saw it. The spoiler, in maximum attack, Abarth logo emblazoned for all followers to see. This is no ordinary special-edition Fiat.
This spoiler, which Fiat dubs “Spoiler ad Assetto Variabil,” which translates to “Variable Trim Spoiler,” offers 12 positions. You can go from fully trimmed out, all the way up to 60 degrees of attack. Top speed is higher with the spoiler set to zero degrees, but come on, you’re going to leave it at maximum attack all the time. It’s the right thing to do.
Plenty of cars have featured adjustable spoilers, and this one brings to mind those on some later versions of the Lancia Delta Integrale, like the one pictured above. It looks absurd and great.
The 695 70th Anniversary is available in a rather fetching shade of green that apparently pays tribute to the first 500 Abarth. There are other neat details, too, like the quad-tailpipe Record Monza exhaust, and the old-school Scorpion logos throughout.
Fiat will build 1949 examples of the Abarth 695 70th Anniversary, and in its home market, it’ll cost €34,600 ($38,000).
