The Empire Hill Climb is over, and the numbers are in: We have a winner!
The last car has run up the hill, the teams have figured the final numbers and we have complete results for the 2019 Empire Hill Climb presented by Autoweek. Held on Saturday, Sept. 14, the Empire Hill Climb spans just over half a mile and features seven corners. Like last year, the event was sanctioned by the Detroit Region SCCA and spread across five classes, as listed below:
Class 1: naturally aspirated 2.0 liters and under; forced induction up to 1.0 liter
Class 2: naturally aspirated 2.1-3.9 liters; forced induction 1.1-1.9 liters
Class 3: naturally aspirated 4.0 liters and up; forced induction 2.0 liters and up
Vintage: trophies only, not for prizes; may dual-enter in an appropriate class
Exhibition: does not qualify for prizes
This year’s class winners were: Robert Meyer with his 2003 Chevrolet Corvette in Class 3 with a blistering 20.228-second lap — fastest of the day; Derek King in Class 2 with his 2007 Nissan 350Z laying down a 20.931-second lap; Aric Streeter in Class 1 in his 1996 Caterham 7 Supersprint with a 20.502-second trip up the hill; in the Vintage Class, Darko Stojanovski with a 1977 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II with a 22.376-second pass; and in the Exhibition Class, or the Autoweek Shootout, in this case, James “Jimmy” Pelizzari with a 2018 Mazda MX-5 Cup with a 22.082-second run.
