Hot on the heels of the new Mercedes Benz GLC we saw in Geneva comes the redone GLC Coupe, loaded with safety and entertainment tech, as you no doubt guessed. We’ll see it in the metal at the New York auto show in April and in showrooms later this year.
The refreshed coupe has a new grille, front and rear lower fascia, plus a new headlight LED headlight design. The 2.0-liter turbo-four is updated, now good for 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque — a 14-hp gain over the outgoing model. Mercedes says the engine is going to offer better fuel economy, and it’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Inside is the new 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment touchscreen or the optional 12.3-inch digital cluster. The new center console touchpad can control infotainment as an alternative to voice control. Matter of fact, there are now five ways to control the new infotainment system: touchscreen, touchpad, voice control, gesture/movement recognition and steering wheel-mounted buttons.
Several advanced safety systems are offered with the driver assistance pack, including route-based speed adaptation that adjusts speed in response to approaching exit ramps, traffic jams, roundabouts and such, while active steering assist helps change lanes and can adjust to speed limits, read by the traffic sign assist system. This system includes more familiar features such as active lane keeping assist — a function now offered by a number of automakers — as well as evasive steering assist.
No word on pricing yet, but expect a slight bump over the outgoing model’s $47,000 sticker.
