BMW has taken the wraps off its third-generation X1 SUV for the global market. The 2023 BMW X1 comes with a host of updates in terms of design, features and tech compared to the outgoing model. Alongside the unveiling of the new-gen SUV, BMW is also debuting its all-electric version, called the iX1.

Both the X1 and iX1 carry forward similar design elements all around. The new-gen X1 comes with larger dimensions compared to its predecessor. The 2023 X1 also features a bigger front grille, flanked on either side by newly-designed headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators. The entry-level SUV also features a new alloy wheel design as well as a refreshed rear profile with a reshaped set of LED taillights and boot lid.

Inside, the new BMW X1 lineup features the brand’s Curved Display, consisting of dual screens – a 10.7-inch unit for the instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, running BMW’s latest OS 8 software. The SUV comes with plenty of other features all around the cabin, along with added tech and connectivity options.

The 2023 BMW X1 will be offered with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version comes with either a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 134 BHP and 230 Nm. There is also a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit, producing 201 BHP and 320 Nm. It comes with a mild-hybrid unit, which adds 19 BHP and 55 Nm. The SUV also comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit with two states of tune. On the sDrive 18d, it produces 147 BHP and 360 Nm, while on the higher-spec xDrive23d it churns out 194 BHP and 400 Nm. The higher-spec variant also comes with a 48v hybrid unit, which adds an additional 19 BHP and 55 Nm. All engine options come mated to a standard 7-speed automatic transmission.

The all-new BMW iX1, on the other hand, is offered in a single xDrive30 variant, producing 313 BHP and 494 Nm from its dual electric motor setup (one on each axle). The motors are paired with a 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which offers the iX1 a maximum range of 438 km on a single charge. A standard 11 kW charger is offered as standard, while the iX1 is capable of fast charging with a capacity of up to 130 kW.
