BMW has launched the third generation Z4 convertible in India. It is available in two variants priced at Rs. 64.90 lakh for the sDrive20i and Rs. 78.90 lakh for the M40i variant. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).
The new Z4 is based on BMW’s Cluster architecture (CLAR). It features a long bonnet and an electric folding soft top, which can be lowered or raised in 10 seconds. The car has a new design twin kidney grille flanked by sweptback LED headlamps and vents behind the front fenders. At the rear, the new Z4 gets L-shaped LED tail lights, integrated boot spoiler with stop lamp and twin exhausts. The M40i variant comes with 19-inch M lightweight alloy wheels and a sporty body kit with trapezoidal exhaust tips and Cerium Grey kidney grille and ORVMs.
Inside, the new Z4 comes with a redesigned dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity in the centre and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The M40i variant gets a leather and Alcantara interior with blue stitching and piping, Quartz Silver, High Gloss Black, Aluminium Mesh Effect or Aluminium Tetragon trim, M sports seats and M leather steering wheel. The Sport Line trim comes with satin aluminium exterior and interior details, while the M Sport Package adds an M Aerodynamics Package, M exterior badges, BMW Individual Black High-Gloss Shadow Line finish, door sill finishers with M designation and M Leather steering. The car comes equipped with ambient lighting and 2-zone automatic climate control.
The new BMW Z4 is available with two petrol engine options. The sDrive20i is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that produces 194 BHP @ 4,500-6,500 rpm and 320 Nm of torque @ 1,450-4,200 rpm, while the M40i is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine that puts out 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. Both engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims that the sDrive20i will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while the M40i takes 4.5 seconds.
The Z4 comes with BMW EfficientDynamics features, which include Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake Energy Regeneration, 50:50 weight distribution and lightweight construction. The M40i variant gets Adaptive M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes and M Sport differential as standard. Some of the standard safety features include ABS with brake assist, airbags, Dynamic Stability Control and Cornering Brake Control.
