Andretti Autosport returns to sports car racing with McLaren and Jarett Andretti

Andretti Autosport has launched a Pirelli World Challenge GT4 America Series program for driver Jarett Andretti, with assistance from McLaren.

Jarett Andretti announced his intent to race GT4 America back in November with the addition of sponsor Endurance Warranty Services — one of the largest providers of vehicle service contracts in the U.S. Now the driver and sponsor have a team.

The 2018 season was the 27-year-old's first in the World Challenge TCR division. He will drive a McLaren 570S GT4 in what used to be the PWC GTS/GTSA Series. Andretti's dirt open-wheel career had stalled in recent years, but the switch to sports car opened up some opportunities for him.

"We are happy to expand our organization for Jarett as he competes with McLaren and the 570S GT4 in the GT4 America Series," said Andretti Autosport CEO — and Jarett’s godfather — Michael Andretti. "Jarett is family and, of course, we know the people at McLaren well. This is a natural partnership for us and Jarett as he continues his professional racing career. We look forward to a successful 2019 race season with McLaren, Endurance and future partners."

Jarett Andretti is a third-generation driver and the son of John, grandson of Aldo and great-nephew of Mario. He expects to continue racing on dirt where his schedule allows too.

"I really want to thank Michael and McLaren for the opportunity to work with them as we build our race program for 2019," he said. "I want to compete for Andretti Autosport and Michael, and I believe we can win a lot of races together with McLaren. I feel this is the next step in my career and I’m doing it with proven winners."

The GT4 entry will be the first Andretti sports car program since it entered an LMP2 Acura ARX-01B in the 2008 American Le Mans Series. It first partnered with McLaren in 2017, when it entered two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso in the Indianapolis 500.
