Custom motorcycle heavyweight Arlen Ness died on March 22, 2019, according to the Arlen Ness Motorcycles Facebook page. The custom bike builder rose to celebrity with his show-dominating drag race inspired choppers. Capitalizing on his show bike success, Ness dived into the aftermarket parts business to allow home builders to create machines similar to his Bay Area-styled bikes. Ness kept up with the competitive world of custom motorcycle building, and his style evolved with the times — eventually into baroque examples of custom bikes.
Ness instilled the custom bike bug in his son Cory Ness and Cory’s son Zach Ness. The Ness legacy of custom motorcycles will continue for years to come. Ness will also be survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly.
