BAC ‘ready to take it to the next level’ at FOS

Launch teaser heralds new Mono variant set for unveil at next month’s Festival of Speed…

When we last checked in with BAC, the company was in rude health. Over 70 cars had been sold across 29 countries, new staff had been brought in and a partnership with HR Owen was looking to take things further still.

That success has been built on the back of the Mono, a single-seater machine which set out to redefine the meaning of ‘race car for the road’. In its latest guise, the 580kg Mono’s 2.5-litre Mountune engine delivers 309hp and 227lb ft, resulting in a sub-three second 0-62mph time and a 170mph top speed. It features variable valve timing, traction control, a Hewland six-speed sequential, Sachs dampers and optional hybrid carbon wheels. It’s all very impressive.

Now it seems it’s time for the company to take what it describes as the next level. That’s the message imparted by the teaser video below, which shows off the silhouette of what’s likely to be a more extreme evolution of the current Mono. Certainly the dramatic F3-style pod the car has grown suggests that the firm has taken steps to upgrade the air intake system – which presumably heralds changes in the output department. Substantial changes.

“It’s been an incredible and truly humbling journey since we launched Mono back in 2011, and now it’s time to turn the dials up a notch. We did our first prototype testing at the Shelsley Walsh hillclimb and blew our class away – a good sign of things to come,” said Neill Briggs, BAC’s co-founder and Director of Product Development.

We won’t have too long to wait to find out all the details anyway, with the new project set to be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Roll on July.
