Which means you don’t need to waste time getting lost in a jungle of monthly installments, APR figures and final balloon payments.
• Best car leasing deals 2018
Each of the representative Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) deals below give you an idea of the top offers available for that particular car. We’ve provided figures for all of the key variables in PCP finance deals, including the size of deposit you must put down, how big the monthly payments are likely to be and the cost of the optional final payment.
The selection of cars below is based on the results of our 2018 Driver Power survey and therefore represent the best cars to own as voted for by Auto Express readers.
In each of the deals, the figure for the total amount payable reflects what you as the buyer will have to spend on the car, excluding the dealer contribution. It is good to keep in mind that with PCP finance deals, there is the option to forego the final payment and simply hand the car back to the dealer.
We’ve also enlisted the help of our sister site, BuyaCar.co.uk, which is a new car broker, to provide ‘aim-to-pay’ prices. If you’re not buying on finance, this will give you a target of what you should pay.
Although the car deals go through regular updates through the manufacturers and car brokers, the numbers below give you a clear idea of what you can expect to pay for each model. Always be prepared to haggle – as there’s usually a little room for manoeuvre on the prices quoted.
Read on below for our comprehensive list of the best new car deals in each sector. Plus, don’t forget to read our list of the cheapest cars to insure and our round-up of the best car leasing deals.

There’s lots to like about the Kia Niro, above all its frugal hybrid drivetrain, which claims economy of 74.3mpg. We’ve opted for a 36-month deal and a £6,100 deposit. This means monthly payments come down to just above £265, with the brand contributing £500 towards the deal. This isn’t much next to some rival offerings, so it’s worth trying to haggle for a better contribution. In addition, we’ve chosen 3 trim, which brings some extra kit to the car. It comes with 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, eight-way adjustable seats, an eight-inch touchscreen and front parking sensors, plus wireless phone charging. This sporty spec comes with racy styling, sat-nav, a reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking and the i-Cockpit interior layout, which Peugeot says adds to the driver appeal. Owners will just have to keep an eye on the odometer; this deal has a 6,000-mile annual limit, with every extra mile charged at 10p. Limits can be raised, but this will impact on monthly repayments. So it’s worth shopping round. Peugeot isn’t contributing towards the deposit and this deal has a 6.9 per cent APR. But it’s worth the effort; you say this is a great car.

Audi isn’t contributing as much to the Q3’s deposit as it does for the A3, but the APR is lower. Put £5,600 down and a top-spec Black Edition can be yours for just £299 per month. This has metallic paint, 19-inch alloys, a black styling pack and Bose stereo, plus LEDs, parking sensors and scrolling rear indicators.

Land Rover Discovery Sport – £329 per month
There’s plenty to like about the Discovery Sport. It’s very capable off road and, in the right spec, comes with seven seats to cater for the whole family. The £329 monthly payments are very attractive, especially compared with the Vauxhall Mokka X, but there are a few caveats. You’ll need a big £9,060 deposit, and if you want to keep the car after three years, you’ll need to find another £20,876. Landmark is the top-spec edition, with plenty of kit.

Lexus NX – £369 per month
The most reliable car in Driver Power 2018, the Lexus NX, can be had for £369 a month when opting for the F Sport trim over a 42-month deal. Although the high-ish APR rate may put some off, Lexus will contribute £2,000 towards the deposit, bringing the final payment below £20,000. The NX is already a sleek-looking SUV, and F Sport trim adds to the appeal with 18-inch wheels, sportier seats and some racy exterior styling. Drivers also get adaptive cruise control and Lexus Premium Navigation. The hybrid powertrain was loved by owners in our survey, but some wished for better fuel economy, so record the real-world mpg while on a test drive.

Lexus RX – £499 per month
Lexus is offering £2,000 towards the RX. The big SUV can be had for £499 a month over 42 months in Luxury trim. It comes with a lower APR rate than the NX (above), but the overall purchase cost is still higher on finance than if you were to buy with cash. Luxury trim adds better infotainment and sat-nav, plus a host of safety features such as autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning. Buyers also get 20-inch wheels, parking sensors and wireless charging for mobile phones. As with the NX, the RX was highly praised in Driver Power 2018; owners rated the SUV’s interior strongly for comfort and style. It also picked up fine scores for its tech and safety features.

Although the Verso is no longer in production, low-mileage 17-plate models can still be bought via sites such as Buyacar.co.uk. The Alfa Romeo Giulia sprung a real surprise by ranking third in our Driver Power survey. The Italian brand performed really strongly in the dealer poll as well. Opt for the high-spec Veloce with a 280bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and you will pay £399 per month over four years. And if the car’s performance isn’t enough to tempt you, Alfa is putting £3,000 towards the deposit. Owners told us the Giulia has the best engines in our entire Driver Power poll, plus they said it’s the best car to drive as well. The looks have widespread appeal, too, and if you go for the Veloce model, it brings some sporty styling cues to make the executive saloon look even prettier.

We particularly like this BMW in 520d guise because it blends decent performance with strong fuel economy, while M Sport specification brings 18-inch alloy wheels and racy twin exhaust tailpipes, as well as better suspension.
