BMW will assume total control of the Alpina brand from 2026.
BMW has acquired Alpina for an undisclosed amount after collaborating with the tuning house for 57 years.
The German tuning company based out of Buchloe near Munich produces high-performance versions of BMW cars. As per the deal, BMW will assume total control of the Alpina brand from 2026, once their current partnership agreement expires. BMW will manage the Alpina brand, however, the tuning company will continue to operate the maintenance and spare parts business for its current and historic cars. The German car giant also stated that there would be no changes to the existing aftersales operations.
BMW stated that before the takeover, it would help Alpina employees find jobs either within the BMW Group or at a supplier/developer partner firm. The tuning company currently has a workforce of 300 at its Buchloe facility.
Pieter Nota, BMW Sales Chief, has stated that with the automotive industry in the midst of a major transformation towards sustainable mobility, acquiring the trademark rights of Alpina will allow them to shape the long-term course of the brand.
Traditionally, the cars are pre-assembled at the BMW production lines, while the final assembly takes place at Alpina’s workshops, where they are extensively modified. Alpina installs engine and transmission upgrades and chassis and aerodynamic tweaks. Alpina even offers customised interiors to match customer specifications.
