BMW‘s M-division is on a roll as of late, introducing not just the M3 and M4 with its divisive new grille style, but also the X5 M and X6 M Competition models.
The X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are being released in limited-run “First Edition” makeups, which gives the already special family SUVs unique styling elements and much more. BMW will offer the special takes in both “BMW Individual Frozen Dark Silver” and “BMW Individual Frozen Marina Bay Blue,” with M light-alloy wheels in “Jet Black,” carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic body kit add-ons, an M Carbon rear spoiler for the X6 and an M Carbon engine cover as standard.
Not only will the Competition “First Edition” models come with all of this added uniquity, they will also come equipped with BMW’s new twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 625 HP. The cars will put this down on the road with plenty of ease thanks to the M-specific suspension and M xDrive all-wheel-drive systems, and because the cars sit on huge new wheels.
Styling is updated as per BMW’s latest artistic direction, delivering a front end that’s nowhere near as gawping at the M3 and M4 but, by no means, is it subtle. The iconic kidney bean grille has been painted black along with most of the front facia, while at the rear you’ll notice the prominent new lights.
Inside, customers will be able to choose from a list of exclusive BMW Individual Merino full leather trims to line the interior. Shades such as “Silverstone/Midnight Blue” will wrap the seats, dashboard and more in leather, while black Alcantara inserts in the seat bolsters and contrast stitching in “Sakhir Orange” will highlight the interior’s M-spec equipment and seats.
250 examples of each have been produced, with orders for the BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competiton open now. Prices are said to be north of $144,000 USD for the X5 M, and upwards of $148,000 USD for the X6 M.
In other news, Audi has made a limited-to-40 TT RS that pays homage to the history of Quattro.
