BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season

BYD aims to sell 10,000 locally assembled EVs in India in the next 2 years.

Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD plans to expand its operations in India. The company is looking to enter the mainstream EV market with its Atto 3 electric SUV.

According to Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President, BYD India, the company plans to launch the Atto 3 during the upcoming festive season. Having received a strong response for its E6 MPV from corporate customers, BYD is now looking to expand into the personal buyer’s space.

The Atto 3 is expected to compete with the Tata Nexon EV Max, MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric. The SUV comes with two battery options featuring the brand’s patented Blade Battery Technology. The 49.92 kWh battery offers a range of 320 km, while the 60.48 kWh battery pack has enough juice to cover 420 km (WLTP cycle).

Powering the Atto 3 is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that develops 201 BHP and 310 Nm, which is said to propel the car from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

According to reports, BYD aims to sell 10,000 locally assembled EVs in India in the next 2 years. Gopalakrishnan has also stated that BYD will be exploring the possibility of local manufacturing based on the response to its assembled models.

BYD is planning to showcase its vehicle architecture and battery technology at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo.
