As we’ve said before, ducktail spoilers are awesome, and we love that they seem to be making a comeback. And perhaps the most famous purveyor of ducktails of them all – Porsche – has a new design inbound.
Interestingly, it’s affixed to a something we wouldn’t associate with ducktails – a 911 Turbo. Specifically, the incoming 992 version.
A test mule for the car was photographed in the vicinity of Porsche’s home in Stuttgart, Germany. We’ve seen other 992 Turbo prototypes sporting a retractable wing, which we suspect will be the standard configuration. What this car has fitted to its wide rump may be an optional extra, or we could be looking at a special version of the Turbo.
As for the 992 Turbo model itself, we don’t have any solid facts to work on yet, but some assumptions can be made. It’ll be all-wheel drive, and given the power bump the 992 Carrera S received over its predecessor, we suspect the S version of the Turbo will develop over 600bhp to keep the 911 hierarchy intact.
Power will most likely be sent through an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission rather than the seven-speed of the 991 Turbo, mirroring the 992 Carrera’s gearbox switch.
We can expect to see the car in full – minus the gaffer tape – early next year.
