The eCC21 electric SUV will take on the Mahindra eKUV100 and the Renault Kwid EV.
According to a media report, Citroen is developing a mass market electric SUV (codenamed: eCC21) for the Indian market. It is expected to debut sometime in 2022.
The EV will be based on the CC21 small SUV which is being developed for emerging markets like India. The report states that the car will be manufactured in Europe with parts sourced from India.
The eCC21 is expected to compete with the likes of the Mahindra eKUV100 and the Renault Kwid EV. It could be priced around Rs. 8 lakh.
In addition to the small electric SUV, Citroen is reportedly developing a flex-fuel car for India. It will use ethanol-blended petrol that is said to have lower CO2 emissions. It also enhances the octane number of the fuel thereby improving performance. For an ethanol content of up to about 10%, engines don’t require any modifications. However, for higher content, the engine requires specific tuning.
The first small SUV to run on flex-fuel is expected to be launched in H2 2021. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which will be tuned to run on a 27% ethanol blend or entirely on biofuel.
