If you want an extra few ticks off the clock in your 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, you’ll have to get the 10-speed automatic transmission, and you’ll have to wait until late February.
“This transmission is optimized for speed,” said Camaro chief engineer Mark Dickens. “With unique Track Mode calibrations and 10 gears, you are always in the perfect gear when rolling on or off the throttle. You may not be a professional race car driver, but now you can shift like one.”
Chevy says that the multispeed trans is good for a half-second at the company’s 2.9-mile Milford Road Course over the manual box. On the ‘Ring, it could be a couple seconds.
The new ZL1 gets several changes leading to more speed including unique calibrations for the 10 speed, limited slip differential and performance traction management system. The Multimatic DSSV shocks were also massaged to accommodate the difference in weight transfer.
The ZL1 makes its bones with a 650-hp supercharged LT4 V8, summer-only Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires and adjustable rear antiroll bar, front-end ride height and camber geometry. The 1LE also drops 50 pounds over the standard ZL1.
The 1LE option will cost you $7,500 and the ten-speed will set you back $1,595.
