According to a media report, the Ford EcoSport is likely to get a Mahindra-sourced 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine in early 2021.
The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (codenamed: G12) is part of Mahindra’s mStallion family of engines. It produces 128 BHP and 230 Nm of torque. It is expected to replace the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in the EcoSport and it could be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Reports suggest that Ford might offer a dual-clutch automatic option as well.
The move is part of the agreement signed by Mahindra and Ford back in 2017. The two companies had agreed to collaborate in areas of connective vehicle technology, electrification and product development.
