Ford said earlier this month that it would build an extra 350 Ford GTs through 2022, making for a grand total of 1,350. Hopefully most of the new ones will be the new GT Carbon Series, now the lightest car in the GT lineup. The GT Competition Series has a standard base dry weight of 3,054 lbs.; this one loses 40 pounds beyond that and will come in at just 3,014 lbs.
The 647-hp supercar will feature bare carbon fiber hood stripes, A-pillars and lower body panels along with an optional accent package (in silver, orange, red or blue) for the mirror caps, center stripe and calipers. It also comes with Sync 3 and air conditioning, two things not available on the Competition Series cars.
The rest of the weight savings comes from the carbon fiber wheels, titanium exhaust and lug nuts, and a polycarbonate rear hatch. It also loses cupholders and driver’s side seat storage bin. Elsewhere inside, buyers will get matte carbon fiber sills, air register pods and center console.
