Geneva motor show: Don't you take that (Alfa Romeo) Tonale with me!

Alfa Romeo showed off its first plug-in hybrid at the 2019 Geneva auto show. It’s called the Tonale. It’s unmistakably an Alfa and basically looks like a small, two-door Stelvio. It even has the rotary phone dial wheels. The Tonale name, by the way, comes from a mountain pass in the Alps near the Stelvio Pass.

The concept takes cues from a bunch of Alfas past including the Duetto, the Disco Volante Spider, the SZ and the Brera. The front end continues with the company’s “Scudetto” grille “that serves as the central point of strength, driving the speed and fluidity that moves throughout the Tonale.” Three element headlights flank the grille, and in back we can see the suspended roof spoiler.

It doesn’t get really weird until you go inside. There we can see the strange backlit center tunnel and door panels, along with the leather and faux suede. It gets a 12.3-inch full digital cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen.
