The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, once just a concept car, will go on sale in select European markets at a price of 38,950 euros this year.
Inspired by the championship-winning race car of the same name, the GTI TCR is one of the fastest and most powerful Golfs to ever wear the coveted GTI badge. With a 286 hp version of VW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a 7-speed DSG transmission, the red hot hatch will hustle from 0-60 mph in just 5.6s and top out at 155 mph. It also gets standard slotted brake discs and a limited slip differential.
For German buyers who travel via Autobahn frequently, or for track day fanatics, there are also two optional performance packages. The first package, which costs 2,350 euros, includes a vmax upgrade that raises the top speed to 161 mph and also adds 19-inch ‘Reifnitz’ wheels, sport-tuned rear dampers and a dynamic chassis control (DCC) system. The second adds 3,200 euros to the price tag and brings wider 19-inch ‘Pretoria’ wheels shod in semi-slick tires, the 161 mph vmax upgrade and the DCC system.
Standard Golf GTI TCR models will come with 18-inch ‘Belvedere’ or ‘Milton Keynes’ alloy wheels, along with new black mirror caps, side sill extensions, a front splitter extension, a new rear diffuser and a TCR roof spoiler. Cosmetic options include honeycomb side panel graphics, carbon fiber mirror caps and a black painted roof.
The interior has received some subtle changes in the way of newly designed seats with a red racing stripe, red accented seatbelts a sports steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marking.
Advance sales for the VW Golf GTI TCR have already begun, so if you want to get your hands on this limited-run Golf, act now.
