The TT RS is, as the experts say, “damn good.” So when Audi’s crack team of designers started its mid-cycle facelift, they wisely chose to keep the updates mild.
Audi appears to have mostly worked on sharpening what was already there, folding creases tighter, making the bulges look more muscular, and just generally making the new TT RS look meaner.
Audi has made the lateral air inlets larger, changed the front spoiler, and added radiators to make the new TT RS handle the air better. Meanwhile, at the back, the big change is the newly designed fixed rear wing.
“The new TT RS is in absolute peak form,” says Michael-Julius Renz, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH. “Like a well-trained athlete, it showcases even more prominently how much power lies beneath its muscular outer skin.”
And that power remains unchanged from the TT RS we all know and love. It still pumps out nearly 400 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque from that deliriously good 5-cylinder that’s hooked up to a 7-speed S Tronic transmission.
Audi still claims that it will do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, though actual 0-60 times tend to be a little lower (C&D reckons the old one’s good for 3.4 seconds).
“The outstanding performance is achieved by the low weight, the maximal athletic tuned suspension, and our award-winning five-cylinder,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Technical Managing Director. “We have received the sought-after ‘International Engine of the Year Award’ with the 2.5 TFSI engine for the ninth time in a row.”
The new look goes on sale this Spring in Europe. Expect it a little later here.
