A few days ago, Audi announced the R8 V10 Plus Competition Package, a limited edition R8 that makes significantly more downforce than the regular car. But considering this generation of R8’s been around since 2015, it’s probably time for a more significant update. Based on Audi’s latest teaser, we won’t have to wait long for that.
Yesterday, Audi posted an image from the official Audi Sport Twitter account along with the line, “Thrilling performance in every single detail.” At first glance, it appears to show two R8s, but if you look closer, you realize it’s not quite the R8 we’re used to seeing. Instead, it appears to be a preview of a refreshed R8.

We can only see part of the front end, but it looks like Audi has widened the grille, increased the size of the R8’s air intakes, and tweaked the headlights. It’s not a major departure from the look of the current R8, but at least from this angle, it gives the German supercar a more aggressive look. The styling of the first-gen R8 will probably always be our favorite, but we like the changes Audi’s made here. They keep the R8 looking fresh without becoming anonymous like some other cars in the current Audi lineup.
At the moment, we don’t have a lot of information on what Audi’s done to update the R8. Odds are, it will include a reworked interior, but there may be a few powertrain changes, too. There’s a chance we could see it as early as the Los Angeles auto show, but don’t be surprised if Audi makes us wait until the Geneva motor show in March.
