It looks like Hyundai’s next-generation Elantra is going the four-door coupe route based on a teaser the company released. Hyundai plans to show the new car to the world March 17 in West Hollywood at an event that will also be streamed at 7 p.m. PST, 8 p.m. EST.
Hyundai didn’t give any more info, such as when the car is going on sale, what the price is, or any powertrain details. The company says the Elantra, called Avante in some markets, is its best-selling car globally with more than 13.8 million sold since its 1990 introduction.
The new 2021 Elantra is longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model, Hyundai said. It also said a key exterior design element is having three character lines meet at a single point on the front doors, creating what Hyundai calls a ‘polyhedral appearance.’
“This formation is a daring challenge, which has been avoided in car design, marking Elantra’s disrupter spirit,” the automaker’s release said.
The interior creates a “driver-focused user experience. Low and wide structures go from the door and connect all the way to the center console, while the large interface consisting of two harmoniously integrated displays elevates the racing-inspired feel of the car,” the automaker said.
The teaser video shows a vertical rear light bar and front end similar to the 2020 Sonata. Stay tuned for more on March 17 when we get a comprehensive look at the 2021 Hyundai Elantra and, hopefully, some additional information and specs.
