The Indian Oil Corporation has launched winter-grade diesel that remains unfrozen up to minus 33 degree Celsius in Ladakh. The fuel will be supplied from IOC’s Panipat refinery.
Temperatures in high-altitude areas of Ladakh, Kargil, Kaza and Keylong drop to as low as minus 30 degree Celsius in winters. These temperatures are well below the freezing point of regular diesel fuel.
The introduction of the special winter-grade fuel will allow access to areas that experience extreme winter conditions. It is also expected to benefit the security forces deployed in the forward areas. It will allow them to stock up crucial supplies and ammunition that often gets cut off due to bad weather in winters.
