If locking yourself indoors from a record heatwave doesn’t scream summer, then the season of Goodwood events certainly does. The Festival of Speed may now be in our rear-view mirror, but that just means the Goodwood Revival is now on the horizon. Last year’s running saw Jenson Button make his historic racing debut – and the 2009 F1 World Champion is set to return for 2022.
The champ put on a belter of a show during last year’s RAC TT Celebration, spending the majority of his stint going sideways while passing historic racing cars left, right and centre at the wheel of the DK Engineering-backed AC Cobra. You may also remember his epic dice with Martin Brundle during the Stirling Moss Trophy. The two F1 legends are good mates, but that didn’t stop them from getting stuck into a scrappy side-by-side battle – topped off with a friendly nudge going into Fordwater.
Not only will we see JB back on track again at this year’s Revival – and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him return to the top-tier RAC TT – but he’ll also play a big role in, quite literally, a tiny race. To mark the ten-year anniversary of the Settrington Cup, the hilariously fun pedal car sprint race that takes place on the start/finish straight, Jenson also judged the Settrington Cup Race Flag competition, where the winning child had the opportunity to win a spot on the grid. You’ll be able to see the lucky winner, Beth Miller (age 9), and over 50 other children race to the finish line on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September. It’s sure to be a competitive race!
On the run up to the Revival weekend, Jenson remarked: “I thoroughly enjoyed making my historic racing debut at the Revival last year and having the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some exceptional cars – and I’m looking forward to doing it all over again in September!
Meanwhile, the Duke of Richmond added: “Jenson Button is a great friend of Goodwood and we were delighted that he made his long-awaited historic racing debut at the Revival last year. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action again this September and would like to thank him for agreeing to judge the Settrington Cup Race Flag Competition.”
If the prospect of watching an F1 champ tear through a field of priceless classics is right up your street or witnessing a drag race comprising child-powered pedal cars, then grab yourself a ticket before time runs out. Prices start at £64 for a general admission ticket for Friday 16th September, while Sunday passes kick off at £84. Both days are now limited, with Saturday selling out a few months ago, so be sure to secure your tickets before they sell out too. With such an action-packed weekend in store, this year’s Revival is set to be another stonker.
