The Chrysler Crossfire made quite a splash, back when it was launched for the 2004 model year. Based on the late-1990s Mercedes-Benz SLK, the Crossfire boasted German engineering and Detroit styling. While it didn’t sell in huge numbers, the Crossfire still has a devoted following today… but apparently the resale values of non-perfect Crossfires have plummeted recently, because these cars are now showing up in the one-price-fits-all self-service yards I frequent. I saw an ’05 in a Colorado yard last summer, and now here’s an ’04 in another Denver-area facility.
This car looks to have been in good cosmetic condition when it arrived in the junkyard, so we can assume that something frighteningly expensive was wrong with something mechanical. Less likely, but still possible, was that it got towed away due to massive accumulation of parking tickets and didn’t get snapped up at auction due to ominously high miles on the odometer.
What’s next, a Plymouth Prowler in the junkyard? Maybe a 2002 Ford Thunderbird?
