A prototype model of the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure has been recently spotted testing in India. This is the first time that the bike has been spied in the country, which means KTM India has already started local testing. The Indian prototype is largely similar to the previously seen global test mules, and this one, especially, appears to be nearing production stage. Sadly enough, the prototype bike came with alloy wheels, similar to the 390 Duke, unlike the global test mules that were seen with spoked wheels. While this could be an indication that KTM might launch the bike in India with alloy wheels, like the existing ADVs in this segment, we do hope the production model gets spoked wheels, at least as an option.
KTM 390 Adventure will share several of its parts with the 390 Duke
The new KTM 390 Adventure is based on the existing 390 Duke and will share several of its parts with its naked sibling. The bike features a similar two-part headlamp unit with LED lights, while this one also gets a taller windscreen. Furthermore, we also get to see identical tank shrouds, however, the design of the tank seems to have been altered to fit in the extended ADV-style seat. Considering this is an adventure tourer, it is quite possible that the fuel tank capacity might be increased and the seat height has also been increased.
KTM 390 Adventure will get different suspension, new seat, and possibly a larger tank
As for other features, we also see the bike with a nice and compact engine guard, slightly forwards-set foot pegs, a pillion seat similar to the 390 Duke, a bit with longer grab rails, and a set of dual-purpose tyres. Unlike the previously seen test mules, this one gets a different and bigger exhaust, which appears to be a temporary unit, while the production model is likely to get the new exhaust that is offered with the existing 390s. The suspension setup also looks similar to other test mules, which appears to be an off-set WP unit with longer travel, suited for adventure touring.
Powering the new KTM 390 Adventure will be the same 373 cc single-cylinder engine that powers the 390 Duke, but we expect the Adventure version to have a different state of tune to have more low- and mid-range torque. Overall power output, however, should be in the region of 44 bhp, and it will continue to come mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
