Compared to its predecessor, the BMW 7 Series is better-looking, more luxurious, and comes packed with even more cutting-edge technology. But it’s also been on sale since 2015, which means it’s time for an update. Especially if it wants to close the sales gap between it and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. We don’t know exactly when the refreshed 7 Series will be revealed, but thanks to an early leak, we now have a much better idea of what it will look like.
Instagram user Stan Rudman recently posted this shot of the new BMW 750i, presumably taken at a customer preview event. It only shows the front end, and there are no photos from other angles, but it still reveals plenty. The hood appears to have a more prominent bulge in the middle, and the headlights look sleeker. The bumper’s also been restyled with larger intakes that help give the car a sportier look.
Oh, and then there’s that grille. That massive grille. After seeing spy shots of a camouflaged prototype last year, we knew it was coming, but still. It’s shockingly large. From this angle, it seems better integrated than we expected, but having already seen the X7 and its similarly large grille, we’re pretty skeptical that the new twin-lung design will end up being very attractive.
So when will the new 7 Series be officially revealed? We can’t say for sure, but don’t expect to see it at the Detroit auto show. That said, we probably won’t have to wait long. Our bet is a late February reveal ahead of the Geneva motor show in March.
